Peru : Emergency aid

In 2017, the Mustela Foundation granted emergency funding of 20,000 Euros to the Peruvian Red Cross to provide relief for people in northern Peru affected by the heavy rains caused by El Niño in March 2017, in particular families in working-class areas, who were more affected than others.

These rains caused torrential flooding, avalanches and mudslides that claimed the lives of nearly one hundred people, left 123,000 inhabitants homeless and affected some 625,000 Peruvians. There was an urgent need to provide those affected with shelter, water, sanitation facilities and food. Northern Peru had not experienced such a catastrophe since 1998, when 500 lives were lostn.
