On May 13, 2014, Turkey experienced the worst industrial catastrophe in its history. A mine explosion in the province of Soma, in western Turkey, killed 301 miners. The tragedy had a direct impact on 432 children, including 212 children under the age of 6, who lost a father, brother or other close relative.
To ease the burden on the families involved, the Mustela Foundation lent support to the UNICEF’s “25 Turkish Lira Per Child to Go to Preschool” campaign in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Education.
The Mustela Foundation sponsored 33 children ages 6 and under by assuming the cost of one year of preschool education.
